Scimita Ventures is an agile technology development and commercialisation business that deploys 'cutting edge science' to produce 'leading edge innovation'. Founded in 2017, Scimita is where research meets commercialisation, where academia meets creativity, a melting pot of bright minds turning ideas into reality/products.
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Process Engineer to join our dynamic team and make critical contributions to our scale-up and innovation projects. This pivotal role encompasses the application of cutting-edge modelling and process simulation tools to ensure the seamless transition of technologies from the laboratory to commercial scale.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams and take technical ownership over the process engineering facets within our projects. Our Process Engineer will navigate the complexities of R&D within commercially driven projects, demonstrating strong organisational skills and adaptability to changing stakeholder requirements, uncertain environments, and several competing priorities.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Engineering Design & Development
- Prepare and review BFDs, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment lists, and preliminary layouts.
- Perform pre-feasibility and feasibility-level engineering design for new process systems, including scale-up considerations.
- Lead the design of first-of-a-kind and pilot systems including material and energy balances and process design input.
Project Execution
- Oversee procurement of process and mechanical equipment including local and international vendors.
- Provide on-site technical leadership during fabrication, installation, commissioning, and operational troubleshooting of laboratory scale equipment and pilot plants.
- Identify critical risks and mitigation strategies (technical, commercial, and safety).
Innovation Strategy
- Contribute to the development of commercialisation roadmaps and business models for emerging technologies.
- Participate in client gap analysis workshops and advise on TRL/CRL advancement strategies.
The ideal candidate for this job will be/have:
- A research-based degree (Honours, Masters, or PhD) in chemical or process engineering, or another relevant discipline; or on-the-job experience.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in an industry context, namely process engineering focused on novel technologies or first-of-a-kind systems would be highly desirable.
- Hands-on involvement in pilot plant or demonstration-scale design and commissioning.
- Deep understanding of process design principles and risk-based decision-making.
- Strong written and verbal communication with an ability to translate technical detail for business stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in uncertainty and rapidly changing commercial environments.
If this opportunity is of interest and you meet the criteria above, please APPLY or email us directly at
Note: In the case of a high volume of applications, we won't be able to reach out to all candidates. Only suitable candidates will be contacted.
