Systems Engineer

As part of our Naval Combat Systems group, the Systems Engineer – Product Owner will be a member of an agile team who is responsible for maximising the value of a product. They are the primary customer advocate for the team and are responsible for connecting the business and development teams.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Support the software team(s) in prioritization of module and component development activities, bug fixes and documentation updates by working with the development team to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Decide what functionality is in-scope, and what can be left out-of-scope by providing insight into system-wide impacts.
- Work with systems engineering and software development teams to ensure smooth execution of product development.
- Communicate systems requirements and system design (including for example, HMI and functional chains) clearly and ensure all teams are aligned on deliverables.
- Providing technical support to Team Leads in the development of software plans.
- Review software documents including requirements, design, test plans and test results - including tracing to Sub-System Specification and Sub-System Design Document, to ensure the needs of the system are satisfied.
- Support team planning, reviews, and retrospectives, assisting them with refining system features and ensuring that goals are met efficiently.
- Where applicable, align planning and evolution with global product design
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office, 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About youYour skills and experience will include:
- Minimum 4 years of experience in Systems Engineering
- Knowledge of the system design to provide system perspective to the development team.
- Able to apply systems engineering knowledge to new domains
- Demonstrated experience assisting in the development of technical products or platforms, ideally within complex system landscapes.
- Proven ability to translate technical concepts into business value, with strong stakeholder communication skills.
- Experience coordinating and facilitating cross-team alignment.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum (desirable)
- Passion for continuous improvement and agile delivery excellence.
- Ability to be adaptive to emergent needs
As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance preferably to NV1 level or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
