Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Karara mine is located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia and is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Operational Technology (OT) Engineer to join our site-based OT team, responsible for leading active involvement, integration, and implementation of the mine OT systems, ensuring operational and maintenance criteria are met through design and engineering. The successful candidate will have an understanding of a mineral processing plant environment, IT / OT and MES systems.

This role operates on 8 days on and 6 days off continuous day shift rotation.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

  • An Engineering degree in IT, Computer Science or similar
  • Strong IT knowledge
  • Experience with MES and Historian software
  • Experience with P2 Explorer, Minemarket, Proficy Historian and Radio systems (e.g. Tetra) will be highly desirable
  • National Police Clearance

To be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia.

Key Duties:

  • Coordinate multiple OT maintenance and project tasks across the complex
  • Management and application of new and legacy operational technologies
  • Support the configuration and maintenance of the plant historian and associated software packages contributing to the Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
  • Develop and maintain of the complex cooperation technology network, its peripherals and associated software
  • Evaluate data and data transformations about their reliability
  • Maintenance of MES and Central Historian
  • Provide expertise in OT technologies including automated data collection, database maintenance historian applications, SCADA, and virtualization of servers.
  • Configuration of sitewide network switches.
  • Provide knowledge of real time data monitoring and collection systems
  • Supporting sitewide Radio system

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
