Role Summary

The Substation Design Manager oversees the development of substation designs and provides technical support to delivery teams. The role focuses on delivering value to customers and partners through well-planned designs and smoothly executed projects.

The Design Manager must have a strong technical background in transmission and distribution network electrical design, with the ability to coordinate scalable design resources and solve complex problems efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed technical and equipment specifications, prepare and assess tenders, manage risk and resource plans, and produce forecasts and project estimates for substation projects.
  • Anticipate client requirements, take ownership of outcomes, and deliver value through a proactive and collaborative approach.
  • Manage remote design teams to produce substation designs efficiently and effectively.
  • Drive continuous improvement by exploring the latest developments in the substation design field.
  • Provide technical guidance to project managers during construction.
  • Oversee time, budget, and quality performance for design projects.
  • Prepare and review complex reports, proposals, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
  • Over 10 years of relevant engineering experience, with a focus on transmission and distribution substations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant standards, policies, and procedures for substation design.
  • Proficiency (or working knowledge) in engineering software for detailed substation, transmission, and distribution network design.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple network service providers and familiarity with their design and construction approval processes.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proven track record in delivering successful project outcomes.
