The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT), has an exciting opportunity for the Manager Education.

The BCT's Education Program plays a vital role in promoting public knowledge and appreciation of biodiversity across the state. Through hands-on workshops, webinars, school programs, and strategic partnerships with organisations like Landcare NSW and Tocal College, we empower landholders and the next generation of conservationists with the tools and knowledge to care for nature.

This is your chance to lead one of NSW's most innovative and sophisticated environmental education programs—designed to inspire, inform and activate biodiversity conservation across private land. It is a unique role that combines strategic leadership, program design, and stakeholder engagement to deliver high-impact education and citizen science initiatives.

About the role

As Manager, Education, you'll be at the helm of the Biodiversity Conservation Trust's Education Program, that connects landholders, communities, schools and partners in a shared mission to protect and celebrate biodiversity.

What you'll be driving projects focussed on:

  • Empowering landholders: Deliver practical, accessible resources and training that help landholders understand and manage the biodiversity on their properties. From conservation management videos to citizen science workshops, you'll help build capability and confidence.
  • Inspiring the public: Lead flagship initiatives like Conservation Champions, bringing biodiversity into classrooms and communities. You'll work with educators, Aboriginal groups and local heroes to embed conservation into everyday learning.
  • Growing participation: Use creative outreach, storytelling and peer-to-peer learning to engage new landholders and encourage them to join the private land conservation movement.
  • Building partnerships: Collaborate with organisations like Landcare NSW, universities, and Aboriginal communities to co-design and deliver high-impact education projects.

You'll manage a small team and oversee a portfolio of education projects, working closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure programs are accurate, inclusive, and aligned with industry best practice. You'll be responsible for building relationships across the education sector, including public and private service providers, to ensure BCT initiatives are innovative, effective, and customer-centric. You will systematically monitor and evaluate program success using best practice methods to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with strategic goals.

This is a leadership role with real influence—where your work will shape how biodiversity is understood, valued and protected across NSW.

About You

You're a strategic thinker and experienced leader with a passion for the environment and education. You bring a strong track record in designing and delivering impactful education programs, ideally in the environmental or conservation space. You're confident managing multiple complex projects and budgets, and you thrive in collaborative environments where cross-team communication and stakeholder engagement are key to success.

You're someone who:

  • Has tertiary qualifications in Education, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, Natural Resource Management or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
  • Has led teams and delivered large-scale or multi-year education initiatives with measurable outcomes.
  • Understands best practice in education program design and delivery, and can apply this to diverse audiences.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively, tailoring messages to different stakeholders and building trust.
  • Collaborates instinctively and deeply.
  • Is skilled in project management, including planning, budgeting, evaluation and reporting.
  • Values inclusion and is committed to incorporating traditional Aboriginal ecological knowledge into education programs.
  • Holds a valid Working with Children Check and driver's licence, and is willing to travel across NSW, including occasional out-of-hours and weekends when required.

If you're motivated by purpose, enjoy leading meaningful work, and want to help shape biodiversity education in NSW, we'd love to hear from you.

Essential Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Working with Children Check is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring a check in keeping with the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012.
  • A valid Australian driver's licence and ability and willingness to travel throughout the state on a regular basis.
  • Ability and willingness to travel out of hours/weekends when required (there will be travel).

The New South Wales Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) is a not-for-profit statutory body, established under Part 10 of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and managed by a Board appointed by the Minister for the Environment.

The Trust's roles are to support and encourage landholders to enter into agreements to conserve and protect biodiversity on private land, guided by the government's Biodiversity Conservation Investment Strategy; secure biodiversity offsets when developers choose to pay into the Biodiversity Conservation Fund; and other activities that promote greater awareness of, appreciation and understanding of, biodiversity and the importance of conserving it.

We acknowledge the ongoing custodial responsibilities of the Aboriginal peoples of NSW to care for Country and are committed to establishing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal peoples in the management of the environment.

If you think you might have a conflict of interest related to the scheme, or you are unsure, please discuss this with the hiring manager.

The Department is committed to protecting the public interest and public trust in the exercise of its functions. These values, together with transparency and accountability, are integral to the administration of the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme. For more information, please contact the hiring manager.

The BCT also has restrictions on staff participation in its funded PLC programs. No additional funding, beyond that already agreed to by the BCT, may be sought or approved during time as a BCT employee or for a 12-month period following termination of employment.

If you (or a close family member) participate in the BOS scheme or already hold a funded agreement with the BCT and require further information before submitting your application, please contact the hiring manager.
