About the role

Balmain Children's Centre is seeking a skilled and passionate Centre Cook/Chef to join our dedicated team. We are a 38 place community-based not-for-profit Centre with a nurturing environment for children aged 5 months to 5 years. This part-time role is based in Balmain, NSW 2041 and will be responsible for preparing nutritious and delicious meals for the children in our care.

What you'll be doing

  1. Plan, prepare and cook a variety of healthy, balanced meals and snacks which meet dietary guidelines.
  2. Ensure all food preparation, storage and service adheres to relevant food safety and hygiene standards
  3. Collaborate with the Centre Manager, Educators and Families to develop menus that cater to children's dietary needs, allergies and food intolerance's.
  4. Maintain the kitchen, equipment and storage areas in a clean and organised manner
  5. Manage the kitchen, including ordering food supplies to align with the menu.

What we're looking for

  1. Formal qualifications in commercial cookery, food preparation or equivalent
  2. A current Working With Children Check
  3. Experience working as a cook/chef in a childcare, educational or similar institutional setting
  4. Strong knowledge of nutrition, food safety and hygiene practices
  5. Excellent time management and organisational skills
  6. A genuine passion for providing high-quality care and nutrition for children
  7. The ability to work independently while contributing to a close knit team environment.
