About the Role
This role will inform, motivate and measure Council's work to uphold the human rights of our community through supporting our LGBTIQA+ communities, people with disability, and other groups in Darebin. You will be a collaborative and communicative leader. You will support a team of people with lived experience and expertise in access and inclusion practices, including universal design, to support Council and our community. You will achieve our shared goal to create safe, welcoming and inclusive opportunities and services in Darebin for all people.
• Lead a team to work across the organisation and with a range of external stakeholders to deliver Council's access, inclusion and diversity objectives outlined within Darebin's Towards Equality Framework.
• Develop and deliver Council's Disability Action Plan through engagement with Council's programs, the Darebin community and local service providers.
• Develop and deliver Council's LGBTIQA+ Action Plan through engagement with Council's programs, the Darebin community and local service providers.
• Provide expert advice and guidance, implement Council's legislated responsibilities and educate others about access and inclusion for all members of the community, including people with disability, LGBTIQA+ people and their support networks, and other groups.
Skills & Experience
• A tertiary qualification in Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Welfare Services, Disability Services, Community Development or Social Policy
• At least 5 years relevant experience in policy and strategy development, project planning and delivery.
• Experience in developing and supporting the implementation of social inclusion, social justice, human rights strategies and programs that assist Council to respond to the needs of its diverse community in an equitable and inclusive way.
• Development, management and reporting on annual operational budget in line with Council's financial planning process.
• Ability to seek input from and gain the co-operation of a wide cross section of interests and formulate appropriate policies and strategies.
• Knowledge and understanding of the legislated environment impacting on Council's responsibilities and obligations in relation to human rights, disability access and inclusion, anti-discrimination and social cohesion strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise, and organise work, both on an individual and team basis within set timelines and in an environment of change and conflicting demands.
• Well-developed skills in managing time to meet targets and deadlines.
• Ability to work in, and manage, a flexible and changing environment.
• Demonstrated experience and skills in leading a team with lived experience to create a productive, safe and supportive workplace.
