This role would suit a highly motivated, organised and enthusiastic self-starter with experience in diary and program management who thrives working as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the Leader's diary, including parliamentary, electorate, travel, and event commitments.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements, logistics, and forward visit programs in consultation with the Chief of Staff and relevant offices and stakeholders.
  • Oversee the Leader's invites and correspondence systems, ensuring timely responses and accurate record-keeping.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including the Members and Senators diary manager network, opposition and ministerial offices, advisers, federal and state secretariats and community stakeholders.
  • Manage the Leader's Parliamentary Register commitments and other compliance matters.
  • Develop, review, and manage correspondence for signature.
  • Coordinate the Leader's visits and events program, ensuring effective planning, briefings, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support scheduling and program alignment with shadow minister offices and electorates.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to engage with a diverse range of people.
  • Attention to detail and record keeping.
  • Well-developed office IT skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage competing work tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines.
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work outside of normal hours.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement which include:

  • A commencing salary between $88,160 and $99,305 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.

  • An additional allowance of up to $37,153 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.

  • Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).

  • An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

  • An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.

  • The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.

  • Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.

  • The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
