WestSide Community Lawyers is a not-for-profit legal centre dedicated to providing high-quality legal advice and representation to vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the community. With offices in Port Adelaide and Port Pirie, we serve communities across Adelaide's western suburbs and the Mid-North & Outback regions. Our services are free of charge, funded by both the Federal and South Australian Governments, and we are proud members of the Community Legal Centres Australia network.
The OpportunityWe are seeking a passionate and capable Generalist Civil Lawyer to join our team. This role is ideal for:
A reasonably experienced lawyer looking to apply their civil law expertise in a meaningful way, or
A motivated junior lawyer with strong foundational skills, a commitment to social justice, and the ability to hit the ground running.
You will provide legal advice and representation across a broad range of civil law matters including tenancy, consumer rights, employment, debt, social security, elder law, and equal opportunity law.
Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver legal advice and representation to eligible clients.
Contribute to community legal education and outreach.
Meet key performance indicators as set by our funding bodies.
Maintain high standards of professional practice, including good file management and compliance with legal and ethical obligations.
Admission to the Supreme Court of South Australia and an unrestricted practising certificate.
Strong commitment to access to justice and working with disadvantaged communities.
Demonstrated ability to manage files professionally and adhere to legal practice standards.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a supportive team.
Willingness to travel to regional courts and outreach locations, including occasional overnight travel.
Current unrestricted driver's licence.
Working with Children Clearance and satisfactory Police Check.
Experience in the South Australian Civil Division of the Magistrates Court and/or SACAT.
Proficiency in drafting legal documents such as affidavits, statements of claim, and outlines of argument.
Familiarity with cloud-based practice management systems (training provided if needed).
You will report to the Managing Lawyer and a senior lawyer nominated by the Managing Lawyer.
Employment ConditionsFull-time position preferred.
Part-time arrangements may be considered for a well-qualified and experienced applicant.
Salary range: $75,000 – $115,000 plus 11.5% superannuation, depending on experience and location.
Generous salary packaging benefits including up to $15,900 tax-free income and $2,650 on a Meal and Entertainment card.
