The Zero program:
Our Year 10 students are offered a unique and enriching pathway in their learning journey through Carey Zero. Zero is an experiential learning programme that is centred around real-world learning and wellbeing. In addition to course work completed within the classroom, the program includes a three-week journey to explore Far North Queensland, with a focus on people, the land and the coastline.
The Head of Zero is responsible for the leadership and management of all Zero programs that run across Term 2 and Term 3.
This is a full-time, ongoing position, commencing in early January 2026.
This role is based in Far North Queensland, with the expectation to visit Carey's Kew campus in Melbourne on occasion.

The role:
- Design and implement the Zero program to maximise student engagement and positive outcomes
- Present opportunities for all students to engage with the program, strengthening their capabilities, providing differentiation as required
- Oversee the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff involved in the program
- Manage a large team of program teachers, instructors and assistants and lead them in best practice
- Manage the administrative and logistical aspects of the program across the full year, including pre-program preparation and on the field
What do I need to succeed?
- Significant experience with running and overseeing large student programs in a school environment
- A passion for working with children in outdoor environments
- Outstanding communication and organisational skills
- Prior team management experience
- Proven ability to manage OHS and risk assessment for a wide variety of settings
A valid Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) Registration and/or Queensland Teaching Registration (QCT) is a requirement of employment in this position.
