About the Role:
National Parks and other protected areas cover a vast area of South Australia and their management requires balancing a range of interests in the land, community expectations and legal and policy challenges. There is an exciting opportunity for a Principal Policy Officer, Conservation and Mining in the Park Planning and Visitor Experience, Protected Area Policy Branch.
The Principal Policy Officers leads the development and implementation of departmental policy and strategies in relation to exploration and mining activities in protected areas and other sensitive environments. This includes coordinating the Department for Environment and Water's assessment of exploration and mining proposals and representing the department in onground inspections in protected areas, including remote areas of the State.
The role works closely working with regional staff, departmental specialists, mining and resources regulators and mining industry participants to ensure mining, resources and energy sector projects meet protected area legislative requirements and adequately protect conservation and heritage values.

Contract:
Ongoing contract.
Special Conditions:
- Will be required to participate in responses to state emergencies or associated duties.
- A current class "C" driver's licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is essential.
- Intra-state travel and remote area travel will be required, including light aircraft travel and occasional overnight absences.
- Some out of hours work may be required.
- Prior to being employed, the successful applicant will be required to obtain a National Police Check.
- You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia without restrictions.
Remuneration:
ASO7 $108,109 min - $116,864 max p.a.
