Role Description
This is a full-time, hybrid (4 days office, WFH Friday) for a Graduate Economist located in Melbourne. Graduate Economists will work alongside senior consultants and contribute to the team via the following typical tasks:
Undertaking Research Tasks
- Compiling economic profiles for localities and industries
- Compiling policy analysis and legislative review
- Development of detailed reports
Assisting, supporting and preparing reports and spreadsheet models
- Preparing of supporting material for business cases/feasibility studies/proposals being developed by our senior consultants
- Developing and writing business cases/feasibility studies/proposals sections and components as directed by senior consultants
- Preparation and review economic/financial models (training will be provided)
General tasks
- Participating in client and internal team meetings
- Creating documents (including research papers, and project and proposal reports)
- Undertaking required research (including data gathering tasks and policy/legislative analysis) and providing assistance to project managers in the compilation of information required for project or proposal deliverables
Work Types
This position involves working on a variety of projects and proposals for different external clients across different sectors and industries.
The subject matter of Aalto's work is quite variable, with sectors of work including science and research, health, defence & national security, arts and culture, transport, water and the natural environment.
Qualifications and Skills
Required
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, or a related field
- Strong MS Excel / MS Word skills
- Strong report writing capabilities
- Good commercial acumen
Desirable
- Prior work experience in relevant management consulting or economic advisory
- Qualifications in complementary fields (engineering, science)
- Familiarity / proficiency with agentic AI or related tools
Other requirements
Fulfilling the requirements of this role may involve short term travel for project, client and stakeholder meetings.
Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance is required for this role.
