Join us in our mission and become part of a team that not only envisions a better future but actively works to create it.

The opportunity

Due to an internal promotion, we are seeking a Head of Software Engineering to lead two tribes comprising 14 scrum teams. These teams are established but need a strong leader to bring clarity, streamline ways of working, and ensure we're operating at our best.

This is a people leadership role, not a hands-on technical position. You'll be responsible for setting technical direction, driving architectural excellence, and ensuring our teams are structured and supported to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions. You'll work closely with the CTO and IT leadership, making key decisions on technical design, team organisation, and delivery roadmaps.

What you'll do:

  • Lead, develop, and optimise two tribes (14 scrum teams), ensuring clear structure, purpose, and high performance.

  • Streamline team operations, resolve overlaps, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Set and govern technical architecture and design standards, with a focus on the Microsoft tech stack and back-end development.

  • Develop and communicate pragmatic technical roadmaps aligned with business goals.

  • Oversee the software development lifecycle, ensuring best practices in quality, security, and deployment.

  • Collaborate with technology leaders to drive innovation and consistency.

  • Build a high-performing, accountable engineering culture that supports learning and growth.

About you

You're an experienced people leader with a proven track record in software engineering leadership roles, ideally within high-growth or complex environments. You bring:

Skills and experience you'll bring:

  • Deep expertise in software engineering, technical architecture, and organisational design, especially with the Microsoft tech stack and back-end development.

  • Proven experience leading large, multi-team engineering groups and optimising complex team environments.

  • Strong track record in developing and executing pragmatic technical roadmaps and plans.

  • Advanced knowledge of agile methodologies and best practices in software development.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.

  • Demonstrated passion for people leadership and building high-performing, engaged teams.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields (highly regarded).

Life At Netwealth

We're committed to your growth, offering access to further education, diverse training opportunities, and strong support for career development. We're proud to be recognised as one of the top 5 companies in Australia for Career Development, endorsed by WORK180.

We offer a range of benefits focused on health, wellbeing, and personal development, including:
