We're looking for a Glasshouse Specialist Technician to join the team in Horsham, Victoria. Our innovation centre delivers canola varieties for key global Nufarm markets and utilises a broad range technology.

Reporting to the Trait Introgression Scientist you will deliver high-quality, hands-on technical support for canola research and development in a glasshouse environment. The role focuses on trait introgression, hybrid development, and regulatory-grade seed production to support Nufarm's global canola and Omega-3 product pipelines and is a great opportunity if you are seeking to build a career within a glasshouse environment as a specialist in plant productions systems.. This role is a hands-on horticultural role in which you will be working on your feet in the glasshouse on a day-to-day basis.

How You'll Help Us Grow

  • Undertaking glasshouse activities for marker assisted selection and genetic improvement of key canola traits.
  • Technical tasks to advance breeding lines using various methods including self-pollination, hand crossing and rapid single seed descent.
  • Managing and monitoring glasshouse experiments for optimal seed production and through-put including climate control, plant hygiene and pollination control.
  • Maintaining glasshouse seed inventory and associated record keeping.
  • Assisting in other technical tasks in the breeding program as required such as note taking, seed preparation for sowing and lab tasks.
  • Train and supervise casual staff as required in glasshouse duties.

Could This Be You?
You are seeking a technical specialist role and enjoy the meticulous work required in a glasshouse environment. You will have intermediate to advanced computer skills particularly in Microsoft suite of products.

You can work autonomously however enjoy the dynamic of a close-knit team where you build strong and dependable working relationships.

You are curious and will be willing and able to get in and try new things across the program to broaden your skills and assist the wider R&D team.
