Job Summary:

The Team Leader, Credit, is responsible for leading and motivating a team of Credit Underwriters to ensure the efficient and accurate assessment of loan applications within the automotive and personal loan sector. This role necessitates a strong understanding of Australian credit regulations, including the NCCP Act, Responsible Lending guidelines, Privacy Act, and ASIC regulations. Furthermore, the role requires exceptional leadership skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality service. The Team Leader will play a crucial role in the development of the Credit team, both technically and behaviourally, and ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures along with ensuring that service levels are met throughout the credit application assessment journey with a strong focus on credit quality.

Key Responsibilities:


• Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of Credit Underwriters to achieve individual and team targets.


• Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify training and development needs.


• Manage team workloads, allocate tasks, and ensure efficient workflow to meet set service levels.


• Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.


• Resolve team conflicts and address employee concerns promptly.


• Oversee the underwriting process for automotive and personal loan applications, ensuring adherence to credit policies and procedures.


• Review complex loan applications and make informed credit decisions.


• Provide ongoing technical feedback and training to the team members / direct reports.


• Conduct regular quality audits of underwriting decisions to ensure accuracy and consistency.


• Implement and maintain robust quality control measures.


• Identify and report any compliance breaches or potential risks.


• Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes and efficiency.


• Develop and implement process improvements to enhance team performance.


• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior credit managers, sales teams, brokers, and customers.


• Address customer inquiries and resolve escalated issues in a timely and professional manner.

Key Qualifications:


• A minimum of seven years of experience in a Credit Analyst role, specialising in consumer and commercial automotive loans and unsecured personal loans.


• A minimum of four years experience holding a delegated lending authority of either $65,000 for unsecured personal loans or $125,000 for automotive loans.

Credit Underwriting Expertise:


• Extensive knowledge of credit underwriting principles and practices within the Australian automotive and personal loan industry.


• Strong understanding of Australian credit regulations (NCCP, Privacy Act, etc.).


• Ability to assess complex loan applications and make sound credit decisions.


• Risk assessment and portfolio management skills.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills:


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.


• Strong negotiation and influencing skills.


• Customer service focused.
