The Australian Refugee Association Inc. (ARA) is a community-based organisation providing settlement, migration, and other forms of assistance to refugees, migrants and other people of concern.

ROLE SUMMARY

ARA is a proud sector member of Embolden, actively contributing to the domestic and family violence (DFV) space to supporting individuals and families affected by domestic and family violence (DFV). Our Family Safety programs offer culturally responsive support to refugee and migrant communities, helping them navigate family relationship challenges, DFV, child safety, and overall wellbeing. Services are trauma-informed, client-focused, and family-oriented recognising individual strengths while responding to the effects of trauma. Support is offered across early intervention, parenting and family skill-building, and intensive case management, with crisis intervention available when needed.

As a Family Safety Case Manager, you will play a key role in providing compassionate support and advocacy for individuals, children, parents, and families who are at risk of or experiencing domestic and family violence (DFV) and related challenges.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide culturally sensitive, trauma-informed support to individuals and families from refugee and migrant backgrounds.
  • Deliver holistic case management: assessments, tailored plans, risk evaluations, safety planning, and referrals.
  • Empower clients with practical support to build independence and resilience.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, community organisations, and service providers to advocate for client needs and ensure coordinated care.
  • Offer cultural consultancy to mainstream services to improve responsiveness to CALD communities.
  • Develop culturally appropriate resources and facilitate cross-cultural workshops focused on child safety and wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, progress, and outcomes.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including attending forums, expos, and sector events to promote ARA's work.

The Family Safety Case Manager will require strong interpersonal skills, cultural competence, empathy, resilience, and flexibility, as well as a commitment to social justice.

This position is being offered as a full-time position (1.0 EFT), based at ARA's Salisbury office and operating during standard office hours, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Please note, this is not a crisis response role and does not require work outside of regular business hours.

The position is classified under Level 4 of the SCHADS Industry Award, with a salary range of $88,099.44 to $94,791.84, depending on qualifications and experience.

As a registered Public Benevolent Institution (PBI), ARA also offers attractive salary packaging benefits to eligible employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A tertiary degree in social work or similar, unless the equivalent knowledge has been gained through a combination of lesser qualifications and relevant professional experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong understanding of family and child safety issues, and parenting models particularly as they relate to refugee and CALD communities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Empathy and sensitivity when dealing with vulnerable clients.
  • Intensive case management and crisis intervention skills, including case planning, safety planning and risk management assessments.
  • Knowledge of community resources and support services for refugees and migrants.
  • Fluency in languages other than English is desirable but not essential.
  • Prior experience working in a similar role, preferably within a refugee or migrant support organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing support to individuals, parents, and families affected by domestic violence and child safety concerns.
