Located just 15 kilometres north-west of the centre of Melbourne, Hume City Council is one of Australia's fastest growing and culturally diverse communities. Reporting to the newly appointed Chief People Officer, the Manager of People, Safety and Operations will be responsible for providing strategic leadership across a broad portfolio, including Payroll, Data and Systems, People & Partnerships, Safety, Return to Work, and Talent Acquisition. This also includes industrial and employee relations (IR/ER), organisational capability, and broader human resources functions. Serving as a strategic partner to the executive leadership team, the role will support the Chief People Officer in delivering the People and Culture strategy, while leading a multi-functional team to drive operational excellence across the People and Culture landscape.

To be successful in this role, you will be an analytical thinker with a track record managing high performing teams. With tertiary qualifications in a related field, you will have a strong foundation in IR/ER policies and practices, and a proven ability to lead the development and implementation of complex and sensitive projects, ideally in the local government or broader public sector environment. With a mix of operational and strategic experience, you can effectively coach organisational leaders to support and implement change and drive excellence in performance. You have proven experience uplifting OH&S practices and embedding safety cultures and enjoy working through complexity at pace.
