About the Role: Cost Estimator
As a
Cost Estimator
at Schlam, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the success of our manufacturing projects. You'll deliver accurate cost projections, respond to operational challenges and support our project teams and clients with timely, detailed estimates. Your work will help drive smarter decision-making, contributing to Schlam's reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse key factors influencing project costs: materials, labour, production time and overheads.
- Interpret technical drawings, plans and specifications to create precise cost estimates.
- Collaborate with engineers, clients and contractors to collect critical project information.
- Calculate, adjust and maintain cost estimates with attention to accuracy and detail.
- Recommend innovative cost-optimisation strategies.
- Support sales teams with quotes, proposals and bids.
- Keep comprehensive records of project costs and market research.
- Deliver outstanding customer service throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage bid processes, project coordination and reporting.
- Develop benchmarks, estimation tools and identify new sales opportunities.
- Ensure all activities comply with operational and safety standards.
What You'll Bring
- A Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Metal Fabrication - Estimating or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in metal fabrication or a manufacturing environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of fabrication processes and manufacturing equipment.
- Excellent skills in mathematics, CAD software, spreadsheets and estimation tools.
- High attention to detail, outstanding communication and strong negotiation abilities.
- Solid understanding of relevant industry regulations and quality standards.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
