You prioritise the safety of yourself and others at work, both physically and mentally.
Every day will be different and you'll thrive in the fast-paced environment that will see you embedded in our frontline, connecting with millions of people from across NSW.
In this role
You'll participate in a paid, six-month intensive Trainee Train Guard program to develop the skills and capabilities you need to become a qualified Train Guard.
You'll be an ambassador for Sydney Trains, ensuring the thousands of passengers who use our services every day have a great experience by managing safety issues and maintaining smooth, efficient train operations.
Throughout your training, you'll learn how to carry out all the role responsibilities of a Train Guard. These include providing customer service and physical assistance, ensuring passengers safely board and alight trains, dispatching trains from platforms, maintaining onboard safety and communicating passenger service information via public announcements.
While the path to becoming a Train Guard is dynamic and rewarding, our Trainee program also reflects the work conditions and personal commitment you'll need to help Sydney Trains run its network 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You'll need to commit to a set, in-person training schedule at our training facility, sometimes including early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.

- Learn all about the role responsibilities, training, locations, shifts and the recruitment process via the Trainee Train Guard candidate information pack

About you
- You're prepared to commit to a long-term career as a Train Guard and a demanding training program.
- You understand that as a qualified Train Guard, you will be rostered for varying shift start and finish times within a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week timetable.
- You enjoy interacting with customers, can tailor your communication style to people from all walks of life, and provide clear and accurate instructions.
- You can work with minimal direction and proactively identify and resolve issues to a high standard.
- Your safety conscious, prioritising the safety of passengers, your team and yourself by adhering to all relevant safety practices and procedures.
- You're resilient and can remain calm in challenging situations in a fast-paced, changing work environment.
- Previous experience working in a safety-focused workplace is highly desirable.
- This role is Aboriginal-targeted; people who identify as Aboriginal are strongly encouraged to apply.
