Based in Sydney with a flexible hybrid work arrangement, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the power transmission network that keeps NSW connected.

The Role

As a Transmission Design Engineer, you will lead or support the planning, engineering, and delivery of high-voltage electrical feeder mains (typically 33kV to 330kV). You'll work closely with internal teams, contractors, and network utilities to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

Mandatory / Core Responsibilities:

· Develop route alignments, perform design engineering, and prepare technical specifications for transmission feeder mains, including both overhead line and underground cable systems.

· Collaborate with substation, civil, and protection engineers to ensure integrated and coordinated design

· Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards and regulations, including:

o   AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 7000, and the National Electricity Rules (NER)

o   Design and technical requirements of NSW Electrical Distributors (Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy, Essential Energy)

o   TransGrid standards and interface requirements for high-voltage transmission systems

· Review and approve technical documents, drawings, and vendor submissions.

· Provide on-site technical support during construction, installation, and commissioning phases

Desirable / Additional Responsibilities:

· Experience in power system studies, including load flow, thermal analysis, earthing, and protection coordination.

· Support and mentor junior engineers in design practices, standards compliance, and technical skills development.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
  • 3–8 years of experience in high-voltage transmission or feeder systems
  • Proficiency with design and drafting software such as PLSCADD (overhead line design), Cymcap (cable thermal analysis), and AutoCAD (drawing preparation and documentation)
  • Strong knowledge of cable sizing, route assessments, earthing, and system integration
  • Familiarity with utility-specific design standards from NSW distributors and Transgrid
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • CPEng or working towards chartership (preferred)
  • NSW driver's licence and willingness to travel to sites as required
