Where you'll be working:

The Centre for Psychotherapy (CFP) is a specialist service within HNELHD for borderline personality disorder (BPD) and eating disorders (ED) and is based in Newcastle at the James Fletcher Campus overlooking Newcastle Beach. CFP staff are dedicated to providing evidence based psychotherapy for their consumers and conducting research to ensure this.

An exciting opportunity exists for one or two clinical psychologist/s experienced and interested in research to join the research team which includes working with Dr Carla Walton from Centre for Psychotherapy and Dr Katie McGill who leads the Mental Health Service Research, Innovation and Training Hub. The Telehealth Increased Access to Treatment in Rural Areas (TIATRA) project recently won the Chief Executive Award at the HNE Excellence Awards. TIATRA is a hybrid model of telehealth and face to face DBT for individuals with borderline personality disorder who live in the New England North West region of HNE.

The research position is for a total of 16 hours per week until 30 June 2026 and job share may be considered (depending on applicants). One day of this role is a grant funded position to extend the protocol for TIATRA and the other day is a maternity relief position.

  • Working closely with the research team to develop the protocol extension for TIATRA
  • Completing and submitting Ethics amendment and documentation
  • Liaising with consumers, mental health staff, and other stakeholders
  • Implementing the extended protocol for TIATRA research, which will involve an extension of understanding the implementation factors examined in the original study of TIATRA. The focus for this contract will be on exploring sustainability and will include collecting qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Diverse research related work also may also include literature searches, scoping reviews, writing draft manuscripts from archival data, qualitative analysis, supervising research volunteers, helping write grant applications, and chairing research meetings.
  • The successful applicant will be supported by Dr Carla Walton and Dr Katie McGill along with the wider Mental Health Service Research, Innovation and Training Hub.
