ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Controls Engineer to join our VIC team in a full-time capacity. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and support of controls and automation systems across Diverseco's range of Robotic and Intralogistics solutions. You will play a key role in ensuring systems are reliable, high-performing, compliant with safety and cybersecurity standards, and meet client expectations.

Your work will focus on delivering end-to-end automation excellence—from software development and hardware integration to commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing technical support. A proactive mindset, strong technical expertise, and exceptional problem-solving skills are essential.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance controls platforms and automation applications, including PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, and Virtual PLC systems.
  • Optimise controls performance by identifying and resolving software and hardware bottlenecks.
  • Integrate automation solutions with industrial hardware including IPCs, PLCs, sensors, actuators, and robotic systems.
  • Implement IPC-based Virtual PLC solutions to improve system efficiency and integration.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for commissioning teams, service personnel, and clients.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, sales, and service teams to deliver integrated automation solutions.
  • Participate in design and project reviews to improve system design, software functionality, and compliance.
  • Conduct peer code reviews and foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Australian standards, cybersecurity best practices, and OHS/WHS requirements.
  • Travel to client sites for commissioning, training, and troubleshooting as required.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum five years' experience in automated systems, robotics, and industrial technologies.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in controls engineering, software development, maintenance, scripting, and support in industrial or automation environments.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including C, C++, C#, Java, Python, and Structured Text.
  • Experience with industrial hardware platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff), servers, IPCs, PLCs, SCADA systems, and network topology.
  • Knowledge of SQL databases, communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, Modbus), and IDE platforms such as Visual Studio.
  • Strong customer service skills and a solutions-focused, proactive approach.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organisational skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours during commissioning phases and travel to client sites as needed.
  • Current and valid Australian driver's licence.
