With a proud tradition of academic excellence, diverse co-curricular programs, and a deep commitment to wellbeing, MLC empowers students to discover their strengths, embrace challenges, and thrive in a changing world.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an outstanding and experienced educational leader to join our Middle School (Years 9–10) as Deputy Head of Middle School.

This pivotal role supports the Head of Middle School in leading and managing all aspects of Middle School life — with a focus on student wellbeing, learning, staff leadership, and community engagement.

The successful candidate will be a strategic, student-focused leader with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire staff and students alike.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and operational support in the day-to-day management of the Middle School.
  • Lead and support Student Coordinators, House and Mentor Teachers to deliver MLC's comprehensive wellbeing and learning programs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of College-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee the Middle School student wellbeing program and ensure effective reporting and compliance.
  • Support curriculum implementation and subject selection processes in collaboration with academic leaders.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and staff, fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging.
  • Represent Middle School at College events, parent evenings, and community functions.
  • Attend the MLC Marshmead campus at least twice annually to support staff and students.

About You You will bring:

  • Proven experience in educational leadership, ideally within a Middle Years context.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Demonstrated expertise in student wellbeing and pastoral care.
  • A deep understanding of adolescent development and the Middle Years of schooling.
  • Strong organisational and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A commitment to professional growth, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Appropriate teaching qualifications and current VIT registration.
  • Postgraduate qualifications (desirable).

Why MLC?

At MLC, you'll be part of a supportive, motivated, and well-resourced team that values innovation, collaboration, and professional excellence. We offer:

  • A dynamic learning environment focused on student wellbeing and achievement.
  • A culture that supports staff development and career progression.
  • Access to exceptional facilities and a strong, connected community.

MLC puts child safety at the forefront and are committed to providing a child safe environment. The safety of our students is paramount and is the responsibility of all of our staff.

How to Apply Applications should include a cover letter and resume and be submitted via the MLC Careers page.
