The role
CBCity is seeking a Strategic Planner to help create a beautiful and liveable city that our community loves.
In this role, you will be responsible for assessing applicant-submitted planning proposals, preparing and progressing Council-initiated planning proposals, developing site-specific Development Control Plans, and drafting Planning Agreements related to planning proposals.
You will also review State Significant Development and Infrastructure proposals, liaise with internal and external stakeholders, manage specialist consultants to obtain expert advice, and prepare reports and recommendations for Council and the Local Planning Panel.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
• Assess and provide professional advice to Council on planning proposals, including recommendations on whether they should proceed.
• Assist with the preparation and negotiation of Planning Agreements with applicants on behalf of Council for the best possible outcomes for betterment of Council and our community.
• Work on a range of planning and design projects and activities, including Development Control Plans, to develop, implement and review Council's planning policies, land use strategies, and planning instruments.
• Develop consultant briefs, coordinate work with external consultants across multiple disciplines, and incorporate their advice into planning assessments.
• Prepare and implement project plans to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of Council staff to deliver projects.
• Review and help improve Council's processes and systems relating to planning proposals, urban planning, and broader development matters.
• Consult and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination on key planning projects.
• Prepare evidence-based submissions and reports on State and Local Government policy initiatives, infrastructure projects, and State Significant Developments.
• Plan, coordinate, and participate in community engagement activities to support transparent and inclusive planning processes.
• Promote and implement safe work practices, proactively managing work health and safety risks within the team.
• Review and ensure the accuracy of Section 10.7 Planning Certificates before their release and undertake general correspondence and other duties as required.

You will have
• Tertiary qualifications in town planning, urban design, architecture or a related discipline.
• Experience working collaboratively within a team to deliver planning outcomes.
• Sound understanding of planning processes, including planning proposals, plan-making, Local Environmental Plans, and Development Control Plans.
• Proven experience managing planning projects, ensuring delivery within set timeframes and budgets.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
• Good understanding of the respective roles of State and Local Government and the private sector in planning matters.
• Awareness of urban renewal, infrastructure, and community planning issues, and the frameworks used to achieve outcomes.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Knowledge of relevant planning legislation, State planning policies, and statutory planning instruments.
The salary for this position is $93,583 (Grade G, Step % super.
