About the Role

As UQU's International, Visa & Migration Advocate, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the student experience for international UQ students.  You'll be the go-to advisor for all things visa and migration, from eligibility guidance and pathway recommendations, to supporting students through the complexities of the system with empathy and professionalism.

Beyond one-on-one advice, you'll also step into a broader advocacy role: creating clear, accessible resources, running interactive visa workshops and pop-up clinics, and collaborating with a passionate Student Support & Advocacy team to champion equity, inclusivity, and belonging. Every day, your work will help students feel supported, empowered, and ready to thrive at UQ.

What you'll be doing

As an International, Visa, & Migration Advocate, you will make a direct impact on students' lives by advising and assisting international UQ students with all their visa and migration needs. This is a part-time role (3 days/ 22.8 hours per week) based at the vibrant. Lucia campus, where you will provide expert advice and guidance relating to their eligibility for various subclasses, recommending suitable pathways, maintain detailed records, and deliver student first, empathetic, and professional service to ensure a smooth and supportive experience for all students.

You'll also engage in important student advocacy activities that align with UQU's mission to support and empower students, including, but not limited to:

  • Preparing accessible resources
  • Developing & Delivering workshops, clinics and events
  • Collaborating with a values-driven team on Student Support & Advocacy initiatives that campion equity, inclusivity, and belonging.

Important Details

At times, the Student Advocacy & Support team hosts events at our Gatton, Herston, & Dutton Park campuses in addition to our St Lucia Campus. The successful candidate will be open to occasionally working across these campuses.

Additionally, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree, equivalent or higher.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as migration agent.
  • Qualified Visa/Migration agent or similar eligible for registration with MARA/OMARA or similar.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the higher education, community, or student organisation sector.
  • Experience in complex client support or case management (highly regarded).
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Proven history of achievement in individual, team, and business objectives.
  • Research experience is an asset.
  • Well-developed, verbal, written, correspondence, and professional communication skills appropriate for a potentially hybrid work environment.
  • Ability to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to quickly master relevant software and data management suites.
  • A valid working with children check (QLD Blue card)
