Join our Office of the Director of Safe Ministry (ODSM) and make a meaningful contribution to the work of the Sydney Anglican Diocese by helping keep our churches safe.

About us

Here at the Sydney Anglican Offices, we are committed to supporting the building of God's Kingdom through the provision of a range of valued services to organisations and churches in the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney.

This position is part of the ODSM team, which plays a key role in preventing and responding to abuse. ODSM is responsible for a range of activities including developing, maintaining, and updating Safe Ministry training and resources, complaints handling and pastoral care.

About the role

In this role, you will oversee the pastoral care system for those who seek assistance from ODSM.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing pastoral care plans for those involved in complaints.
  • Managing the front-line contractors who are first responders to those making complaints.
  • Professional supervision will be provided.

About You

We're looking for someone who has a pastoral heart and can apply empathy and clarity in complex situations, while maintaining professional boundaries. This includes:

  • Demonstrated experience in pastoral care as a chaplain, social worker, counsellor or educator.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management and managing complex cases.
  • Extensive experience in providing pastoral care to victims of abuse.
  • Able to work autonomously and manage your own workload and administration.
  • Excellent relationship management skills and interpersonal skills, including ability to coach, influence and negotiate outcomes.
  • Developed conflict resolution and mediation skills.
  • Ability to maintain clear, up to date, organised and accurate records with good records management practices.
  • Understanding of Anglican church structures.

Desirable

  • Professional qualifications such as counselling, social work, psychology or theology.

Consistent with the ethos and values of the Sydney Anglican Offices, applicants for the position must have a demonstrated Christian commitment and be an active member of a church. Knowledge of the Diocese is an advantage.
