Position Overview:
The Deputy Systems Engineering Manager ensures the deliverables of all systems engineering activities against the project contract. The role requires the hands-on coordination of all engineering disciplines, across HDA and its subcontractors.
The Deputy Systems Engineering Manager is the engineering face to the customer and they must have a complete and detailed understanding of not just the systems engineering process but also ASDEFCON Complex contracting.
Primary Duties:
- Assist the project Engineering team to meet the projects objectives.
- Assist the development, preparation, and on-time delivery of all the project Engineering artefacts.
- Ensures the project engineering activities are completed within agreed schedules and budgets.
- Coaching, mentoring, motivating, and directing the projects Engineering staff.
- Oversee Systems Engineering Process, ensuring that all engineering activities are conducted in accordance with the process and the plan.
- Oversee System Safety and safe engineering work practices are paramount and implemented for the project.
- Conduct regular progress meetings in addition to design/technical meetings and provide reports on systems engineering activities status.
- Engage with the customer and other key stakeholders representing Engineering.
- Work with all contributing parties, including our subcontractors, to ensure the quality of all deliverables and exchanges with the customer are exceptional.
- Other duties as required by the Supervisor.
Note:
The Deputy Systems Engineering Manager might be required to travel to subcontractor and test locations which may be within Victoria, Interstate and Internationally.
Qualifications
Mandatory
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering.
Desirable
- Post graduate qualifications in Systems Engineering highly desirable.
- Meets Engineers Australia criteria for Chartered Professional Engineer.
Experience
- 10+ years professional experience in Systems Engineering roles within Defence industry, preferably based around delivering complex large-scale programs.

- Proven ability to influence technical and project engineers. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Effective communication and collaboration abilities
- Proven ability to effectively manage relationships and positively resolve disputes with internal/external stakeholders.
- Meticulous approach to work, with the ability to identify potential risks and issues proactively. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work under tight deadlines without compromising quality.
- Flexible and adaptability, as you'll be expected to quickly pivot and respond to changing priorities and dynamic work environments.
- Attention to detail: Meticulous approach to work, with the ability to identify potential risks and issues proactively. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to solicit, support and coordinate efforts of diverse teams of technical and functional experts.
Eligibility
