Position Overview:

East Preston Islamic College is a K-12 coeducational independent school that delivers high-quality academic and values-based education in a nurturing Islamic environment. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Secondary English & Humanities Teacher to join our College in 2025. This is a full-time role, offering the opportunity to inspire students in the areas of English, Literature, History, Geography, and other Humanities subjects, within a dynamic and supportive school community.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English and Humanities lessons aligned with the Victorian Curriculum.
  • Promote critical thinking, creativity, and a love of reading, writing, and inquiry-based learning.
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and motivating learning environment that encourages student participation and achievement.
  • Integrate literacy and analytical skills across subject areas to support students' holistic learning.

Assessment and Reporting

  • Design and implement formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and communicate progress effectively with parents.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement and prepare formal reports in line with College policy.

Collaboration and Professional Practice

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in curriculum planning, moderation, and resource development.
  • Engage in professional learning and reflective practice to enhance teaching skills.
  • Contribute to whole-school initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
  • Uphold and promote the values and ethos of the College.
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the Vice Principal/Principal.

Pastoral Care and Co-Curricular Involvement

  • Support the wellbeing and development of students through active involvement in the College's pastoral care program.
  • Contribute to the broader life of the school by participating in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • Model and promote Islamic values of respect, service, and integrity in all interactions.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Education with specialisation in English and/or Humanities.
  • Strong knowledge of the Victorian Curriculum and contemporary assessment practices.
  • Demonstrated capacity for effective classroom management and student engagement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement.
