Introduction

Yugunga-Nya Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (YN PBC) is the registered native title body corporate for the Yugunga-Nya people.

On 2 November 2021, Native Title was awarded over 21,305 square kilometres of land in the Mid-West, including Meekatharra and Cue.

YN PBC is registered with the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC) and is currently based in Burswood, Perth WA.

The Role

The primary objective of this role is to support the Ranger Team in delivering the Yugunga-Nya Ranger Program. A person with leadership skills and demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people is needed to develop and grow the Yugunga-Nya Ranger Program and implement various Ranger activities such as overseeing training of new rangers, weed monitoring and management, feral animal management, and having input into the ongoing design of the ranger program. The rolereports to the Ranger Manager.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervising Rangers in Conservation Land and Ecosystems Management of Yugunga-Nya Country including fire management, feral animals and weed control programs.
  • Mentoring new rangers and supporting them during their training and opportunities for upskilling.
  • Conducting staff performance reviews, and individual training plans and schedules.
  • Performing and supervising general maintenance duties.
  • Attending and actively participating in collaborative partnerships, meetings, forums, and workshops.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and government agencies to promote YN Ranger program
  • Provide high level support for the collection and maintenance of records related to biodiversity, habitat condition, and conservation initiatives.
  • Communicate findings to stakeholders and funding bodies through progress reporting.
  • Provide high level support for the development and maintenance of walking tails, signage, and other visitor facilities in conservation areas.
  • Use relevant tools and technologies (such as GPS, field cameras, and data collection apps) for effective data gathering and reporting
  • Undertaking revegetation and rehabilitation of Country and monitoring species, habitats, and ecological communities once programs are established.
  • Assisting Traditional Owners in the protection of traditional and ecological knowledge.
  • Performing other duties as directed within your skills, qualification, and experience.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe workspace with scheduled compliance audits.
  • Complying with all safety procedures and policies.
  • Mechanical and labour knowledge will be desirable.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Relevant qualification and previous experience in conservation and land management or tourism
  • Demonstrable experience in the supervision of traditional owners, Ranger, parks & wildlife and/or other conservation teams and tourism
  • Ability and willingness to supervise extended conservation and land management fieldwork in remote areas as required.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

Mandatory:

  • Current WA Class C Driver's licence (as a minimum).
  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain and maintain.
  • Be physically fit (a successful GP fitness assessment is mandatory for this position)
  • National Police Clearance (not older than six months)

Remuneration

  • Up to $120,000 per annum plus superannuation, dependent on skills and experience.
  • 1-year fixed term contract with probability of extension.
  • 6-month probationary period
  • 5 weeks annual leave;
  • Salary packaging.
