The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) is responsible for enhancing Australia's agriculture, fisheries and forestry through regulation and partnership.
The Digital Services Division (DSD) is responsible for the management and delivery of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) functions and activities across Australia and overseas for the department. The Division provides a secure, modern ICT environment so the department can conduct its business 24/7 and focus on achieving departmental outcomes. DSD staff work collaboratively across the department, taking advantage of advances in technology, to deliver end-to-end services and solutions that are nationally consistent and deliver organisational and business benefits.
To be successful in the role requires you to have a strong work ethic including taking ownership, providing leadership and a high level of productivity. You must have suitable qualifications or training in business analysis techniques and at least 10 years' experience working as a business analyst.
Candidates must hold a valid Baseline security clearance or be willing and eligible to obtain one. Commencement within the section is contingent on the candidate obtaining a Baseline clearance. Please provide your CSID on your resumé/CV (if known).
Key duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities
include, but not limited to:
- Supporting strategic business engagement and project initiation.
- Conducting pre-project analysis and discovery.
- Designing, leading, and/or facilitating workshops to ensure business requirements are captured.
- Producing high quality, concise, easy to read and relevant architecture and analysis documentation for digital services.
- Working in an Agile and iterative development approach that includes backlog management, PBI development and refinement, and facilitation of various Agile ceremonies, as required.
- Introducing, adapting, and maturing of Agile and iterative development approaches within delivery team/s.
- Proactively seek out and engage stakeholders, establishing and nurturing productive relationships.
- Leading and mentoring business analysts and establishing business analyst-related standards and best practices within the delivery team/s.
- Sharing outcomes, knowledge and experience with other business analysts in the section.
- Utilising expert level knowledge of best practices to uplift capability maturity and governance practices.
- Be responsive, flexible, and work collaboratively as part of an agile team.
- Assisting project teams achieve objectives that align with departmental, divisional, and sectional priorities.
Essential skills and experience:
- A minimum of 10 years' work experience as a business analyst, service designer or technical writer, using various Agile techniques and methodologies.
- Experience in facilitation and collaboration with recent examples of designing, leading, and/or facilitating workshops to ensure business requirements are captured.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high quality, concise, easy to read and relevant architecture and analysis documentation for digital services.
- Experience working in an Agile and iterative development approach. Including backlog management, PBI development and refinement, and facilitation of various ceremonies as required.
- Demonstrated experience in the introduction, adoption, and maturing of Agile and iterative development approaches within delivery team/s.
- Ability to independently seek out and engage stakeholders, establishing and nurturing productive relationships.
- Experience in leading and mentoring business analysts and establishing business analyst-related standards and best practices within the delivery team/s.
- Strong relationship building, communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.

- Experience working with Cloud platforms using technology such as Azure and/or D365.
Bonus skills/experience:
- Experience working within Federal Government.
- Experience in data analysis, modelling and/or projects related to the management of scientific and/or statistical data. Experience using Microsoft Power BI would be beneficial.
