About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Barista to lead our coffee team and ensure the highest standards of coffee preparation, customer service, and team management. The Head Barista plays a key role in creating an exceptional customer experience and upholding our café's reputation for quality coffee.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve consistently high-quality coffee and other beverages to café standards.
  • Lead, train, and mentor junior baristas and café staff.
  • Manage daily coffee bar operations, including workflow, cleanliness, and presentation.
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels of coffee beans, milk, and consumables.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health & safety standards.
  • Calibrate grinders and espresso machines daily to maintain coffee quality.
  • Collaborate with management on menu development, specials, and coffee offerings.
  • Provide excellent customer service, handle customer feedback, and build rapport with regulars.
  • Oversee opening and closing procedures for the coffee station.
  • Report on coffee sales, wastage, and improvements.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' barista experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of specialty coffee, latte art, brewing methods, and equipment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on consistency and quality.
  • Basic understanding of ordering, rostering, and stock management.

Qualifications (preferred but not always required)

  • Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) – if serving alcohol.
  • Food Safety or Hygiene Certificate.
  • Coffee training or specialty coffee certifications (highly regarded).
