HammondCare pastoral care volunteers have an opportunity to support the spiritual and emotional needs of the elderly clients living in their home. As a pastoral care volunteer, you'll be actively involved with a local Christian church.

We are seeking a Pastoral Care Volunteer to visit an elderly client living at home in The Ponds. Originally from Italy and having moved to Australia as a child, this client has a deep passion for gardening, especially tending to her roses and vegetables, and enjoys watching the Italian channel on TV. A devout Catholic and former seamstress, she would benefit from ongoing social visits and conversations, as she is adjusting to life after the passing of her husband a few years ago.​

You'll supplement and complement the work of our HammondCare At Home Pastoral Care Coordinator, and under their direction you may:

* Support people to meet their spiritual needs
* Nurture spiritual development

Skills required for this role:

High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills.
Pastoral Care training for example Chaplaincy, Clinical Pastoral Education, or you could attend HammondCare pastoral care training- Spiritual Care Series, in preparation to becoming a pastoral care volunteer.

Volunteering along side Pastoral Care can be a rewarding experience, both for the person you visit as well as yourself. Regular visits from volunteers can help to improve quality of life and help people feel less isolated.

We'd be happy to discuss a suitable time during the week for a one hour visit between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday, visits could be weekly to fortnightly depending on your availability.
