Role purpose

The Multimedia Producer plays a vital role in the development of high-quality, engaging visual & audio content for the National Museum of Australia. Working within the Creative Studio team, the Multimedia Producer will have hands on skills to lead the production of visual and audio for exhibitions, digital platforms, and public programs. This includes motion graphics, animations, soundscapes, object-based audio stories, podcasts, and audio tours that enhance visitor experience both onsite and online. The role requires a deep understanding of storytelling, sound design, and technical audio production, along with a passion for bringing Museum content to life through sound. The Multimedia Producer may also be required to work on other projects within the Digital Creative Content team as required.

Key accountabilities

  • Produce multimedia content:
    Story boarding, prototypes, conceptualise and develop HTML5 digital ads to support campaign objectives.
  • 3D motion graphics/ animations:
    Create high impact 3D motion graphics and animations for onsite screens including temp gallery entrance.
  • Produce audio content
    : Conceive, script, record, edit and mix a range of audio outputs including short- and long-form audio stories, soundscapes, audio tours, and podcast-style pieces for exhibitions and digital platforms.
  • Collaborate across teams
    : Work closely with internal museum departments like curators, exhibitions, education as well as creative studios team videographers, designers, and developers to conceptualise and deliver multimedia experiences that are historically accurate, compelling, and aligned with the Museum's voice and values.
  • Lead multimedia strategy for projects
    : Develop audio treatments and production schedules in consultation with project teams; manage multiple audio projects to deadline and budget.
  • Sound recording and editing
    : Conduct field and studio recordings with talent including curators, experts, artists, and actors; mix and master audio for varied playback environments (exhibition spaces, headphones, web, and mobile).
  • Quality assurance
    : Ensure all content meets accessibility, copyright, and cultural sensitivities standards; incorporate best practices for inclusive audio storytelling and sound design.
  • Technical oversight
    : Maintain audio equipment and software; provide advice on equipment use and acquisition where needed.
  • Documentation and archiving
    : Ensure accurate documentation, metadata tagging and archiving of audio materials for ongoing reuse and reference.
