Team Leader – Inclusive Supports Full-Time | Aurukun or Cairns based

EMG Inclusive Supports delivers NDIS disability supports across remote First Nations communities in North Queensland. Our model prioritises locally employed support workers, community-led practice and culturally informed service delivery. We focus on building capability within communities, strengthening independence for people we support, and ensuring services are delivered in a way that respects culture, family and Country.

EMG Inclusive Supports is seeking a motivated and community-minded Team Leader to support our program in Aurukun. This role is ideal for someone who values being on the ground, leading through action, and building local capability.

About the Role

As Team Leader, you won't just manage supports - you will be present, involved, and hands-on, guiding a local workforce and helping deliver services that matter every day.

A typical week in Aurukun involves being out in community. You may:

• Support fishing trips at the landing

• Join games days and craft activities at the community centre

• Assist people with shopping, errands and everyday tasks

• Coordinate social outings, cultural engagement and community connections

• Travel between Aurukun and Weipa for appointments, shopping or family visits

• Lead in-community recruitment, stakeholder engagement, client check-ins and other operational needs

• Mentor your team while working alongside them in real situations

You will oversee a small local team of around 10 Support Workers, helping them grow in confidence, capability, and quality service delivery. There is strong opportunity for program growth - we are seeking someone who thinks ahead, implements contingency planning, and supports ongoing recruitment and skill development to maintain a strong and reliable local workforce.

What This Role Requires

• Availability to work two weeks per month in Aurukun (typically one week in community followed by one week working from your home base), with flexibility for operational needs

• Comfortable travelling on unsealed roads between remote communities

• A willingness to step in and directly support people when required, modelling good practice and active support

• Commitment to growing your practice by being guided by local staff on cultural expectations, communication styles, and how support is best delivered in Aurukun

What You'll Bring

• Genuine passion for supporting people to achieve their goals

• Experience living or working in remote First Nations communities

• Demonstrated leadership capability - supervising staff, resolving issues, coaching and development

• A respectful and relational approach with strong communication skills
• Ability to take initiative, manage competing priorities, and work autonomously

• Confidence in drafting written reports and using Microsoft Office systems

• Certificate III in Individual Support (or willingness to complete)

• Qualifications in disability, community services, or related areas (or equivalent experience) desirable

• Current Provisional Green licence or higher

• Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR, Blue Card, and any relevant screening checks

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to live in-community, support cultural connection, and develop local capability that will benefit Aurukun long-term. Your leadership will directly influence outcomes for individuals, families, and the growth of our team.
