Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Office of Industrial Relations Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year

About the Office of Industrial Relations

The Office of Industrial Relations (OIR) works to improve workplace health and safety, electrical safety, workers' compensation, and industrial relations across Queensland. We promote transparency, accountability, and access to information that supports public confidence in our operations.

About the Role

As an Advisor in the Right to Information (RTI) directorate, you'll play a key role in supporting statutory compliance and promoting open government. Working autonomously in a small, collaborative team, you'll deliver high-quality, timely decisions and advice under the Right to Information Act 2009, helping ensure fair and transparent access to government-held information.

This is a great opportunity for a motivated professional with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in public accountability and privacy.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Manage a high caseload of complex RTI and Information Privacy (IP) applications within legislative timeframes.

• Exercise delegated decision-making powers and prepare well-reasoned decision notices and submissions to the Office of the Information Commissioner.

• Provide accurate, easy-to-understand advice to internal and external stakeholders on the RTI Act and related processes.

• Research and interpret legislation, case law, and best practice in information management.

• Liaise with business areas to identify and assess documents for release, including redacting sensitive material.

• Support OIR's publication scheme and disclosure log to promote proactive disclosure.

• Maintain high standards of recordkeeping and compliance with statutory requirements.

You'll also be supported with professional supervision and access to the Employee Assistance Program, as this role may at times involve reviewing confronting or sensitive material.

What We're Looking For

To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:

• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret legislation and apply it to complex situations.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain legal and technical concepts clearly.

• A commitment to integrity, professionalism, and quality outcomes, even under pressure.

• Collaborative and respectful working relationships, both within your team and across the wider organisation.

• Personal resilience and adaptability, with the ability to manage a high workload and competing priorities.

No mandatory qualifications are required for this role.

Why Join Us?

At OIR, you'll join a professional and inclusive workplace committed to transparency, fairness, and continuous improvement. You'll have the opportunity to build expertise in a specialised field, contribute to open government, and work in a supportive environment that values your wellbeing.

How to Apply

To apply, please submit:

1. Your current resume, including the contact details of at least one referee who has supervised you within the past two years.

2. A short statement (1-2 pages) responding to the following questions:

o What motivated you to apply for this role, and how does it align with your professional interests and values?

o Describe a time you were required to interpret and apply legislation, policy, or complex information to make a decision or provide advice. What approach did you take and what was the outcome?
