ABOUT THE ROLE

ASC is seeking a Laboratory Technician / Tester to join our East Brisbane laboratory on a full time basis, to support the existing team. The role represents a great career opportunity for individuals with excellent attention to detail and a willingness to learn about grain and oilseed analysis.

The core duties of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • analysis of cereals, oilseeds and pulses for:

  • protein, moisture and oil/fat content

  • impurities (weed seeds, foreign material, dockage)
  • defective grains
  • insects and insect damage
  • germination capacity/energy
  • wet gluten content and gluten index
  • free fatty acid content of extracted oils
  • operation and maintenance of bench-top instrumentation including NIR, NMR and Falling Number systems
  • laboratory housekeeping, including cleaning and re-stocking consumables

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

The successful candidate(s) must:

  • have excellent communication skills with a pleasant, friendly manner
  • be a team player and willing to support colleagues to meet deadlines
  • hold a qualification in Science in a relevant discipline (e.g. Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science)
  • possess excellent organisational skills and be able to multitask
  • be able to work productively in a fast-paced environment

The following proven abilities will be highly regarded:

  • prioritise workload based on client/management requirements
  • ability to adapt to changes in priority and pace
  • prior experience working in a commercial laboratory
  • prior experience in grain and oilseed analysis
  • prior knowledge of GTA, USDA, GAFTA or FOSFA grading and test procedures
  • experience with NATA/ISO accreditation

Attention to detail and accuracy are essential.

EMPLOYMENT BASIS

Full time. Business normal hours of operation: 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
