Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Bilue Pty Ltd Full time

Company Description

Bilue is a digital consultancy that designs and builds smart, user-friendly technology for some of Australia's most well-known businesses. From mobile apps to beautifully designed web platforms and digital experiences, we create solutions that drive impact and deliver exceptional customer outcomes.

Our culture is people-first and purpose-driven. We're a down-to-earth, values-led team with offices in Sydney and Melbourne, and a growing presence in Manila. We genuinely enjoy working together, whether we're solving tough tech problems, brainstorming creative solutions, or grabbing a coffee between meetings. Curiosity is encouraged. Collaboration is second nature.

We value excellence, not ego, and back each other to do great work without micromanagement. With low politics and high trust, it's a place where delivery people, designers, and engineers genuinely connect, and where everyone has a voice, space to grow, and a little fun along the way.

Job Description

About the Role

As a Senior Android Engineer at Bilue, you'll be part of a cross-functional team that brings bold ideas to life. Your craft will shape apps that are not just fast and reliable, but a joy for people to use every day.

Working side by side with our clients, you'll turn their vision into elegant, scalable Android solutions. By leaning into the latest frameworks and agile ways of working, you'll help us deliver software that feels effortless on the surface and powerful underneath, the kind of work that makes a lasting mark.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain reliable, high-performance Android applications
  • Work closely with clients to translate their business needs into technical outcomes
  • Ensure seamless integration with back-end services and cloud platforms
  • Optimise for performance, responsiveness, and user experience with clean, scalable code
  • Champion agile delivery — sprint planning, story refinement, task breakdown, and continuous improvement
  • Maintain code quality through peer reviews, unit testing, and automation
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and production issues
  • Lead by example in adopting emerging Android frameworks and best practices

Qualifications

About You

You're an experienced Android Engineer with 6+ years of experience building exceptional mobile experiences. You take pride in creating apps that not only work beautifully but stand up to the demands of high-performing teams and discerning clients.

You bring a deep understanding of Android architecture, responsive design, and modern development practices, always with an eye for quality, performance, and long-term maintainability. You thrive in a fast-paced, agile consulting environment where collaboration, craftsmanship, and client success go hand in hand.

Your code is clean, your communication clear, and your standards high, because you know that's what it takes to deliver software that truly makes an impact.

  • A strong track record delivering large-scale, production Android apps
  • Deep skills in Kotlin (and Java where needed)
  • Hands-on experience with the latest Android tech: Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Flow, Hilt/Dagger, Room, WorkManager, Navigation Component
  • Integration experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL and cloud services (Firebase, AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Proven ability with offline storage, concurrency and performance tuning
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Bitrise, Fastlane) and release management (Play Console)
  • Proficiency in Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Experience with unit, UI and snapshot testing to ensure quality at pace
  • Agile delivery mindset — comfortable with estimation, sprint cadences and continuous delivery
  • Active engagement in the Android developer community (meetups, OSS, conferences)
  • A passion for benchmarking, optimisation and making apps feel fast, polished and reliable
