About Us:

North West Queensland Indigenous Community Social Services Limited (NWQICSS) is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our Community Patrol Program. The individuals will be required to provide outreach services to homeless and intoxicated individuals in public spaces, with a focus on offering culturally appropriate support to First Nations people. Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with homeless and intoxicated individuals in public spaces, providing transport to safe places.
  • Build relationships with local Elders, and support services to offer culturally appropriate care.
  • Use de-escalation techniques to diffuse potentially volatile situations, ensuring the safety of all parties.
  • Assist clients with transport to safe locations.
  • Maintain daily reports of patrol activities and interventions, ensuring accurate and timely records.
  • Collaborate with local services to enhance outreach and client support efforts.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience or willingness to learn de-escalation techniques and cultural safety practices.
  • Ability to work within a team and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including afternoons and evenings.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience in community outreach, social work, or a related field.
  • First Nations cultural background or strong cultural knowledge is highly regarded.
  • Experience working in the Mount Isa region or with similar communities is advantageous.
  • Willingness to participate in training for the role.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer-literate and the ability to complete reports.
  • Current Driver's License.
  • Current Police Check
