The NSW Department of Education's Information Technology Directorate (ITD) is transforming. There is an exciting opportunity within the Application Services team.

We are seeking a strategic, customer-focused leader to join our Information Technology Directorate as the Manager, Application Support and Development.

About the role

This pivotal role leads a high-performing technical team in delivering end-to-end lifecycle support, and development for a portfolio of specialist applications. You will balance operational stability with innovation, ensuring multiple critical systems continue to meet the evolving needs of the Department.

Working closely with senior executives, business stakeholders, and external partners, you will shape technology roadmaps, drive continuous improvement, and champion customer-focused solutions that support learners, educators, and staff across NSW.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a skilled team to deliver timely, high-quality ICT support and application development.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, stakeholders, and service providers to optimise outcomes and align with strategic goals.
  • Provide expert strategic and technical leadership on ICT initiatives, including the planning of resourcing, risk, and cost planning.
  • Ensure operational resilience through compliance with security, disaster recovery, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee roadmaps, documentation, and reporting to ensure systems remain reliable, secure, and effective.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, professional development, and continuous improvement within your team.
  • Manage any escalations when necessary

About you

  • You are a proactive leader who thrives on engaging with stakeholders and delivering results in complex environments.

  • Proven experience leading technical teams and managing enterprise applications.

  • Strong track record in ICT project delivery, balancing competing priorities and tight timeframes.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders across government, NGO, and private sectors.
  • Knowledge of security, regulatory, and data privacy requirements.
  • Commitment to customer service, public education values, and outcomes that benefit learners and communities.
