Where You'll Be Working
You'll be based at the
Mater Mental Health Centre
in
Waratah
, an acute inpatient facility supporting adults in need of mental health assessment, treatment, and care. Your primary focus will be the
Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC)
—a busy, high-acuity unit co-located with the Emergency Department.

About the Role
This is more than a job—it's a leadership role in emergency mental health nursing. You'll work both
independently and collaboratively
as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, providing advanced care to patients presenting to ED with complex mental health needs.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

• Assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing mental health presentations in ED
• Leading emergency mental health responses
• Contributing to clinical leadership, mentoring, and policy development
• Participating in research, education, and staff development
• Some consultation liaison work within the broader Mater hospital

No night shifts
You'll work across a
7-day rotating roster
, with shift times between:

• 8:00am – 4:30pm
• 10:00am – 6:30pm
• 12:00pm – 9:30pm
• 2:30pm – 11:00pm

About You
We're seeking a skilled and confident mental health nurse with advanced clinical knowledge, excellent judgment under pressure, and a passion for improving emergency mental health outcomes.

Essential Criteria

• Current endorsement as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, or working toward endorsement (Transitional Nurse Practitioners welcome – up to 3-year temporary appointment)
• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
• 3 years' full-time advanced practice experience in Mental Health (within the past 6 years)
• Postgraduate qualifications at Master's level (or currently completing) in an NMBA-approved program
