We're looking for a passionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Transitional Nurse Practitioner (TNP) to provide expert care in a fast-paced environment—where your leadership, clinical expertise, and compassion will truly shine.
Where You'll Be WorkingYou'll be based at the Mater Mental Health Centre in Waratah, an acute inpatient facility supporting adults in need of mental health assessment, treatment, and care. Your primary focus will be the Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC)—a busy, high-acuity unit co-located with the Emergency Department.

This is more than a job—it's a leadership role in emergency mental health nursing. You'll work both independently and collaboratively as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, providing advanced care to patients presenting to ED with complex mental health needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing mental health presentations in ED
- Leading emergency mental health responses
- Contributing to clinical leadership, mentoring, and policy development
- Participating in research, education, and staff development
- Some consultation liaison work within the broader Mater hospital
No night shifts
You'll work across a 7-day rotating roster, with shift times between:
- 8:00am – 4:30pm
- 10:00am – 6:30pm
- 12:00pm – 9:30pm
- 2:30pm – 11:00pm
We're seeking a skilled and confident mental health nurse with advanced clinical knowledge, excellent judgment under pressure, and a passion for improving emergency mental health outcomes.
You'll bring:
- A collaborative spirit and leadership mindset
- Strong clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- A desire to teach, mentor, and lead by example
- Current endorsement as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, or working toward endorsement (Transitional Nurse Practitioners welcome – up to 3-year temporary appointment)
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
- 3 years' full-time advanced practice experience in Mental Health (within the past 6 years)
- Postgraduate qualifications at Master's level (or currently completing) in an NMBA-approved program
You'll be supported by:
- Nurse Unit Manager – PECC
- Clinical Director & Staff Specialist – PES
- Senior Operational Nurse Manager – who facilitates monthly NP/TNP meetings
