Volker Haug Studio produces decorative lighting for the international market from our Brunswick East design studio and workshop. We have a small but growing team, and we strive to make an enjoyable, flexible and inclusive workplace.

We are currently hiring for a full-time role in our workshop within the production management team.

The Production Coordinator will work closely with our Inventory Manager to fulfil a central role in the studio, and together they will facilitate the manufacturing and assembly of our range of decorative light fittings.

With experience in production management and a knowledge of hands-on manufacturing, the Production Coordinator will ensure the smooth operation of our workshop and the timely completion of all orders that move through the studio, keeping our team of makers synchronised with our design and client teams.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in small batch fabrication and hands-on production.
  • A minimum of 3 years of production management or project management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate open communication and feedback between team members.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to effectively balance competing priorities.
  • Excellent time management skills with the capacity to set and work to deadlines.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with a variety of software packages.
  • Fantastic attention to detail and a critical approach to standards of quality and output.
  • Self-motivation and flexibility with drive and energy, particularly over peak production periods.
  • Well-developed communication skills with a willingness to develop policies, procedures and work plans.
  • Ability to work and react to tight deadlines, and to work calmly and effectively under pressure.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with production or job management software.
  • Experience with quality control, standards and compliance, and WH&S.
  • Familiarity with the materials and equipment involved in the decorative lighting industry.
  • Experience in reading shop drawings.
  • Experience with CAD or 3D modeling software.

Position Description

  • Track the progress of all jobs to update status and communicate any concerns to design, production and client teams.
  • Liaise with design, client and production teams to help ensure smooth work flow and job handovers.
  • Ensure adequate workshop resources via forward planning and job scheduling.
  • Allocate parts and components for jobs and orders.
  • Inspect for quality control any completed orders and assist with testing and reporting.
  • Assist the design and client teams with the management, scheduling and delivery of large orders and custom projects.
  • Encourage an environment where consistency, quality, efficiency and safety are at the forefront.
  • Promote procedures and policies around compliance and WH&S.
  • Provide team members with training and feedback as required to maintain high standards.
  • Utilise, maintain and develop existing production protocol and systems.
  • Continually analyse and diagnose any issues or inefficiencies in existing protocols and systems.
