Project Manager (Part-Time – 3 Days/Week) - REMOTE

Location: Melbourne/Tasmania or Sydney

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Project Manager to join our Research & Development team. Our facility is located in King Island Tasmania, but your job is 100% remote/work from home. 1x month trip only to King Island will be required (2-3 days travel).

We are dedicated to pioneering research into lobster science, working at the intersection of marine biology, aquaculture innovation, and sustainability. With two scientists leading the research side of the project, we are looking for someone who can take ownership of the day-to-day project management, ensuring milestones are met, resources are coordinated, and reporting requirements are delivered.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in a hands-on and collaborative environment, supporting meaningful outcomes for the aquaculture sector.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Develop, monitor, and update detailed project plans, schedules, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with scientific staff to align research activities with project milestones.
  • Manage budgets, procurement, and resourcing to support project needs.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Act as the central point of contact between the research team & stakeholders.
  • Prepare regular project updates, progress reports, and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Facilitate meetings, capture action points, and ensure follow-through.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and reporting in line with funding and regulatory requirements.
  • Support risk management processes, ensuring project risks are identified, tracked, and mitigated.
  • Assist in drafting and coordinating submissions, applications, and compliance documents as required.

Operational Support

  • Work alongside scientists to support the operational delivery of the project.
  • Ensure research activities are underpinned by robust project management systems.
  • Help identify and troubleshoot operational bottlenecks.

About You

We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive, and able to work collaboratively with scientists and stakeholders. You will bring strong project management expertise and be comfortable working in a dynamic research environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven project management experience (preferably in research, science, or technical projects).
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage timelines, budgets, and resources.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build productive working relationships.
  • Competence with project management software/tools and Microsoft Office Suite.

Desirable

  • Background or interest in aquaculture, marine science, or environmental sustainability.
  • Understanding of research environments and scientific project cycles.

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Part-time (3 days per week)
  • Location: Work from home/remote (onsite presence required 1x month for 2-3 days)
  • Contract: Fixed-term 12 months with renewal opportunity
