Position PurposeConstruction Workers at HJK are responsible for carrying out a variety of skilled tasks on major projects. This includes formwork carpentry, steel fixing, concreting, plant operation, scaffolding, and general labouring. The role supports the safe and efficient delivery of large-scale construction works while ensuring compliance with all workplace health and safety requirements.
This position is suitable for experienced tradespeople, apprentices looking to build a career, and motivated labourers seeking long-term opportunities in the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a range of trade-specific duties including carpentry, steel fixing, concreting, and/or general labouring as directed.
- Assist in setting up, pouring, vibrating, finishing, and stripping concrete.
- Erect, dismantle, and maintain formwork systems in line with project specifications.
- Tie and place reinforcing steel and mesh according to engineering drawings.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and plant/equipment safely and effectively.
- Carry, move, and handle construction materials and equipment safely.
- Work at heights, in confined spaces, or in outdoor environments where required.
- Support site set-up and clean-up, including waste removal, material organisation, and tool checks.
- Maintain compliance with PPE requirements and site safety protocols at all times.
- Participate in toolbox talks, site inductions, and safety briefings.
- Report hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately in line with WHS standards.
- Follow supervisor instructions to meet project deadlines and deliver quality outcomes.
- Assist in mentoring apprentices and supporting team members where appropriate.
- White Card (mandatory).
- Relevant trade tickets/licences (e.g. carpentry, scaffolding, dogging, rigging, EWP, forklift, crane, or plant operation) highly regarded.
- Experience in construction, particularly in formwork, steel fixing, or concreting (preferred but not essential for entry-level/apprentices).
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labour in outdoor conditions.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and commitment to teamwork.
- Solid understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
