Location: Songbird Early Learning Centre – Briar Hill

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (7am–6pm rotation)

Qualification: Diploma or above in Early Childhood Education

Nestled in the picturesque, leafy suburb of Briar Hill, Songbird Early Learning Centre is a small, family-owned service that feels more like a home than a workplace. Our boutique centre caters to 55 children aged 6 weeks to 6 years, with a warm, nurturing environment that values relationships, reflective practice, and genuine collaboration.

We are currently seeking a passionate Diploma-qualified Room Leader who also holds a flair for mentoring and curriculum leadership — stepping into a dual Room Leader / Educational Leader role. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone ready to make an impact in a centre that truly values quality education and the well-being of both children and educators. Candidates must hold Australian permanent residency or citizenship to be eligible for this position.

As Room Leader, you will:

Leadership and Management

  • Lead your room with confidence and compassion.
  • Support and inspire your team of educators to deliver excellence every day.
  • Ensure daily operations run smoothly and meet all compliance standards.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of room leadership experience is required for this role.

Program Development and Implementation

  • Develop and deliver a high-quality, play-based educational program that celebrates each child's individuality.
  • Maintain developmental records and write meaningful transition reports.
  • Create inviting, engaging learning environments that encourage exploration and curiosity.

Team Collaboration and Support

  • Mentor and guide fellow educators.
  • Encourage reflective practice and professional growth.
  • Collaborate closely with the Centre Manager and broader team.
As Educational Leader, you will also:
  • Champion our educational philosophy, ensuring programs align with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and VEYLDF.
  • Support educators in program planning, documentation, and reflection.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional learning.
  • Guide curriculum innovation and inspire your team to think creatively.
  • Work alongside the leadership team to ensure the service's educational vision is achieved.
What You'll Bring:
  • Diploma (or higher) in Early Childhood Education and Care.
  • Proven experience as a Room Leader or Educational Leader.
  • Strong knowledge of EYLF, NQS, and current best practice.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
  • A genuine passion for making a difference in children's lives.
