Junior Engineer or Draftsperson

Richlands, Queensland, Australia ACRAN Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year
About the Role

We're looking for a technically-minded draftsperson or junior engineer who wants to bridge the gap between drawings and the real world. This isn't just a CAD role - it's a chance to build practical design skills, collaborate with trades and engineers, and see your work come to life on site.

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Richlands. You'll be working on practical acoustic and ventilation solutions that end up in schools, hospitals, defence sites and more, jobs where engineering has real impact and where clear drawings and smart problem-solving genuinely matter.

You'll be supported by a steady team of engineers and trades, and work alongside experienced professionals including Fellows of the Australian Acoustical Society and experts in airflow and mechanical design. You'll have the chance to walk the line during manufacturing, check your work on site, and contribute to real-world engineering outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

This is a hands-on role, focused on delivering accurate, practical designs and supporting them through to completion. You'll be:

  • Creating build-ready drawings in Autodesk Inventor

  • Working closely with engineers, the workshop and installation team

  • Visiting site for measurements, QA and install checks (when required)

  • Communicating with suppliers, customers, and trades

  • Ensuring components are correctly specified for procurement

  • Following jobs through from design to delivery and learning how everything fits together

You'll be the connector between design intent and build reality, helping make sure jobs go out the door right, first time.

Who This Role is For

We're open to different backgrounds - what matters most is your capability with Inventor, your communication skills, and your willingness to be part of a practical, production-focused team.

You might be:

  • A Draftsperson with a background in manufacturing or construction, who enjoys working on real jobs and wants to broaden your project exposure

  • A Junior Engineer who's confident with CAD, keen to build practical experience, enjoys project-based work and is ready to get involved across site, shopfloor, and design

If You're an Experienced Draftsperson:

You'll bring strong drafting skills and a steady, practical mindset. You'll be expected to:

  • Take ownership of the drafting output on assigned jobs

  • Work confidently with project teams, clients and trades

  • Translate design intent into practical, fabricable solutions

  • Support the Engineering Manager by flagging issues early and keeping jobs moving

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys getting drawings right, is comfortable speaking up when things don't add up, and wants to stay hands-on with design while contributing meaningfully to how jobs are delivered.

If You're a Junior Engineer:

You'll start with strong Inventor skills and a good base understanding of mechanical design. You'll be supported to grow into:

  • Following jobs from initial design through to install

  • Understanding how acoustic and airflow systems perform in practice

  • Working alongside senior engineers to develop safe, effective, buildable designs

  • Communicating confidently with fabricators, customers, and suppliers

  • Visiting site for measurement and QA activities

  • Coordinating small project elements over time, with structured guidance

You'll be learning from a team that values mentoring, including from leaders in their field — and you'll get the chance to see how good design makes a difference, not just on paper, but in the real world.

Either way, you'll need to be someone who:
  • Takes pride in getting drawings right: clear, buildable, accurate

  • Communicates respectfully and clearly with suppliers, clients, or the floor

  • Is curious about how engineering plays out in the real world

  • Is happy to jump in when a site measure or install QA is needed

  • Wants to see your work go all the way through from concept to install

  • Is willing to ask questions, flag issues early, and offer ideas to improve the process - we want thinkers, not just doers

  • Is comfortable working under time pressure and balancing accuracy with momentum - the team will back you, but you'll need to own your piece

You'll Bring
  • Strong skills in Autodesk Inventor

  • A practical mindset and eye for detail

  • Clear communication, both written and verbal

  • For engineers: a degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or similar

  • For draftees: trade-based or drafting qualifications with experience

  • Confidence working alongside fabricators, clients, and other stakeholders

  • An interest in acoustics, airflow, and how things are actually built

What You'll Get
  • A steady, full-time role in a growing business

  • A seat at the table with real input and responsibility

  • Guidance from experienced engineers and acoustic specialists

  • The satisfaction of seeing your work come to life on the floor

  • A team that values quality, structure, and good people doing good work
