Hello from the Big Childcare team We're looking for someone like YOU to join our vibrant, fun-filled workplace.

We are seeking a passionate and organised 2IC to support the daily operations of our service located in Victoria Park. This role is ideal for an experienced educator ready to step into a leadership support role, working closely with the Centre Manager to ensure high-quality care, smooth operations, and meaningful relationships with children, families, and the school community.

As a Second in Charge (2IC) at our program in Highgate, you'll be a positive role model for the children, creating unforgettable moments while actively shaping the program's daily activities, whilst also assisting the Centre Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Support

  • Support the Centre Manager in leading and mentoring a team of educators.
  • Take on leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Centre Manager.
  • Assist with team meetings, shift planning, and daily staff coordination.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative team culture.

Compliance & Safety

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with the National Quality Framework (NQF), National Law and Regulations, and Big Childcare policies.
  • Maintain accurate records such as attendance, incident reports, and medication logs.
  • Help uphold high standards of health, hygiene, and safety at all times.

Program Delivery & Child Engagement

  • Support the planning and delivery of a play-based, child-led program aligned with the My Time, Our Place framework.
  • Actively engage with children to create a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Help ensure activities are developmentally appropriate and meet the interests of the children.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Build positive, respectful relationships with families.
  • Act as a key point of contact in the absence of the Centre Manager.
  • Collaborate with the school community to support seamless service integration.
Key Selection Criteria

Essential

  • A Diploma or higher in Early Childhood Education, School Age Education and Care, or equivalent (as approved by ACECQA).
  • Minimum 1–2 years' experience in an OSHC or early childhood setting.
  • Sound knowledge of the NQF, NQS, and relevant National Law & Regulations.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, Asthma, and Anaphylaxis certifications.
  • A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a leadership or 2IC role.
  • Familiarity with OSHC management software.
  • Experience in a school-based environment.
  • Understanding of inclusive and culturally responsive practices.
