About the Role:

IT Explained is looking for a seasoned Infrastructure and Data Engineer/Architect to assist with multiple data migration projects for our government clients. In this role you will influence and support several large-scale data migrations onto a modern cloud-based technology stack. You will be working with different agencies, each with their own unique requirements, and provide advice, governance and alignment with regulatory functions.

Initial 12-month contract with possible extension, starting January 2026

Responsibilities may include:

  • Optimise and/or redesign data processes onto a medallion-based model.
  • Review existing Data platforms and provide feedback.

  • Design and implement Solution Architectures that align with:

  • ISO27001 and IRAP cyber security controls.

  • ASD Essential 8 controls to a specified maturity level.
  • Ability to work within Queensland Government frameworks (IS18, QGISCF, QGAF, DES etc. )
  • Adopt a modern approach to working with technology ie. Automation via Infrastructure as Code.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience designing and implementing cloud solutions.
  • Strong Synapse/Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Purview and PowerBi/Fabric knowledge and experience.
  • Fluency in Python, SQL and other programming languages.
  • Broad infrastructure and network experience across cloud platforms.
  • Very strong experience configuring and securing Azure cloud services.
  • Strong Terraform knowledge.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Azure DevOps will be highly regarded.
  • Experience within the architecture domains (business, information, technology and application).
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills including the ability to influence key stakeholders through collaboration.
  • Mentoring operational staff in supporting new technologies and solutions.

Certification requirements (highly desirable):

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • Azure Databricks Platform Architect
  • Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate or Professional
  • TOGAF or similar will be highly regarded

Additional

  • The successful candidate must be an Australian Citizen or have Permanent Residency status.
  • The role is Brisbane based
  • Semi work from home (2-3 days per week) The candidate needs to be comfortable with a flexible working environment. This role will involve a combination of remote and in office work requirements.
