The Opportunity
Our Western Port Manufacturing facility is looking for a Electrical (Automation) Project Engineer to join our Engineering and Capital Projects team based in Hastings for a 2 year fixed term role. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products Portfolio, we have four major manufacturing sites at Western Port which operate 24 x 7 and deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to export and domestic customers.

What Will You Do?
Working closely with the Engineering and Capital Project teams to understand core processes you will review asset performance and provide solutions to maintenance teams. You'll perform investigations, propose solutions and lead various projects to completion, ensuring our equipment is maintained to the highest standard in order to deliver our safety, quality and reliability objectives. You will:
- Provide Engineering support to maintenance and operations teams for troubleshooting and resolving reliability issues.
- Analyse plant and equipment performance data to identify improvement projects that maximise OEE and minimise unit cost.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations on equipment problems with a focus on defect elimination
- Deliver Engineering improvement and Business Plan projects.
- Contribute to the department's asset strategy development and review process to ensure maintenance practices are effective and aligned to operational requirements.
- Lead the adaptation of reliability focused solutions in predictive maintenance.
More About You
You will hold a degree qualification in Electrical Engineering combined with suitable experience in relevant maintenance within manufacturing heavy industry, showcasing your strong technical and analytical knowledge to meet the reliability objectives. As a result, you will have:
- degree qualifications in Electrical Trade/Engineering or a Diploma of Electrical Engineering, combined with suitable experience in relevant maintenance within manufacturing heavy industry.
- proven ability to work independently across all project stages—from concept and design to implementation. Proficient in CAD, with a solid foundation in core mechanical engineering principle, project management
- sound knowledge of Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM), Kepner-Tregoe (KT) analysis, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Defect Elimination, and Lean methodologies
- strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively within manufacturing teams, with the capability to influence peers and colleagues to achieve the desired outcomes
- experience with fault finding heavy industrial mechanical equipment in a similar industry within Maintenance, with a strong focus on defect elimination and equipment reliability.
