About the role

The primary purpose of the role is to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are informed of their legal options and to assist in addressing their unmet legal needs. In addition, the role assists legal officers and administrative staff to help develop, coordinate, facilitate and implement outreach services, community legal education sessions and engagement with Aboriginal communities. The role also helps the Solicitor in Charge, Office Manager, Associate Directors and Solicitors on local community issues that may arise.

Aboriginality is defined by descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. You build strong relationships with clients, Elders, and service providers, and bring cultural insight to help shape inclusive outreach and education programs. You're a confident communicator, a collaborative team member, and committed to making a difference.

The essential requirements for this role

You must:

  • be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander

  • hold a valid NSW Drivers' License and be able to travel

  • be willing to do a Criminal Record Check

  • have a paid Working with Children Check prior to commencing work
